University of Pretoria(UP) Call for Country Consultants On Review Of Discriminatory Laws Related To Violence Against Women (VAW) In Africa
Angola, Botswana, Gabonese Republic, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Sierra Leone, Mali, and Cape Verde are among the countries where the Centre for Human Rights (the Centre), University of Pretoria(UP) is looking for experienced local researchers to conduct a review of discriminatory laws related to violence against women (VAW).
A research is being conducted by the Centre and the Office of the South African Presidency to analyze the impact of laws in tackling VAW across the African continent (the Study). The Study is a pan-African initiative aimed at mapping and analyzing the specific legislation linked to VAW that selected African countries have enacted to meet their commitments to protect against, prevent, and respond to VAW.
The study will also investigate the contextual challenges faced by women in various African jurisdictions, as well as the extent to which context influences the application of existing laws. The project will look at how characteristics including gender, class, race, ethnicity, (dis)ability, and geographic location intersect to influence VAW practice and reaction using a decolonial lens. The country study reports will be compiled into a regional report for Africa.
