The Villages Daily Sun, Florida’s largest daily printed newspaper, is seeking a seasoned journalist to cover healthcare expansion in one of the nation’s fastest growing regions.
This is a premier beat chronicling the healthy aging of America in the nation’s largest senior living community (135,000 people in a town that will double in size in the next 20 years). A deep level of subject matter mastery is required for this area of coverage, which includes the development of a 400-acre medical city that will be anchored a new trauma center and research hospital. Strong explanatory skills are required, as well as the ability to comfortably interface with sources at the highest levels of organizational power.
Members of our senior staff define the high end of what is possible. They serve on the newsroom leadership team with opportunities to mentor less experienced staffers and opportunities to advance into the management ranks if desired.
Our newspaper is part of a media group that also produces a daily TV news show, operates an FM radio station and publishes a monthly magazine and niche special products to which our newsroom staff occasionally contribute.
Candidates need a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, and at least three years of experience producing newsgathering under the pressure of daily deadlines. Familiarity with Florida’s social and political climate is a plus.
