The Garden Club of America Summer Scholarship in Field Botany for undergraduates or graduates students!

The Garden Club of America is a national leader in the fields of horticulture, conservation, and civic improvement.
Founded in 1913, The Garden Club of America is a volunteer nonprofit organization comprised of 199 member clubs and approximately 18,000 club members throughout the country. GCA members passionately devote their energies and expertise to a wide array of projects in their communities and across the nation.

To promote greater understanding of the interdependence of horticulture, environmental protection, and community improvement, The Garden Club of America annually awards over $300,000 in scholarships, including the prestigious Rome Prize and The Garden Club of America/Royal Horticultural Society Interchange Fellowship. The GCA Founders Fund is an annual award to a club for an exceptional community project. At the national level, the GCA annually recognizes prominent citizens for their outstanding contributions and frequently hosts a variety of educational conferences across the country.

Purpose for the The Garden Club of America (GCA) Summer Scholarship Program 2022 in Field Botany – U.S. Citizens 

To support student’s field studies and offer an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience beyond the regular course of study.

Provisions:  Provides $3000 annually to one student for out-door summer study in the field.

History:

 In the late 1990s, to help offset this trend of declining or consolidated botany programs at colleges and universities the GCA’s Scholarship Committee added a proposal for a summer scholarship in field botany to its list of possible new offerings. Beginning in 2000, Mrs. Henry Streeter, an ardent horticulturist and member of the North Shore Garden Club of Massachusetts, generously offered to fund this opportunity.

Eligibility: Open to undergraduate and master’s degree students. Research must be conducted in the Western Hemisphere. Eligibility is open to U.S. Citizens and permanent residents who are enrolled in a U.S. – based institution.

Selection:  Members of the GCA Scholarship Committee and professionals knowledgeable in field botany will select awardees.
