SRD R350 Remittances Are Being Postponed Because Of Technical Error
Since their resubmitted applications were approved, some Social Relief and Distress (SRD) grant recipients have not been paid for the past two months. The Department of Social Development (DSD) admits to a few technical Errors and explains how funds will be distributed.
Beneficiaries of SRD R350 are hoping that they will receive their funds, which have reportedly not been paid since April. 10.6 million individuals have been affected, according to reports.
This was due to a technical Error in the department, according to the Portfolio Committee on Social Development.
Nonkosi Mvana, the Committee’s Chairperson, explained in a statement:
“This occurred as a result of the department’s efforts to complete a functional verification procedure and guarantee that all systems are operational (which would also assist the Auditor-General with the monitoring of the application process)“.
Mvana stated that now that both targets have been met, the department plans to execute payments to all grant recipients as quickly as feasible.
According to reports, the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) will assist the department in refining its procedures in order to settle delayed payments from the previous award cycle.
Kwanele Qayiso, 19, is one of the SRD R350 recipients who has had his Child Support Grant terminated since he is beyond the age of 18.
Qayiso further mentioned that life has been difficult since his SRD payments were halted for the previous two months, as the grant supports both him and his unemployed mother.
Mvana stated that the department is nearing completion of contracts with banks in order to complete the means test for applications, which will help with payment.
The Committee has requested that the grant be increased on a year-to-year basis, according to reports.
