South African Social Security Agency Encourages Grantees to Use Alternative Payout Points
The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has stated that recipients of social grants should use alternative payout stations to collect their funds. This follows the government agency’s decision to discontinue the administration of social grants through the Post Office.
Sassa has emphasized that recipients of social grants may withdraw their funds at alternate payout stations.
Pasika Letsatsi, a representative for Sassa, stated that recipients can go to supermarket chain stores such as Boxer, Shoprite, and Checkers, as well as bank ATMs.
Sethokga added in an interview:
“Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant recipients ought to get a pin code from the Post Office so that they can access their grant at any other alternative collection point”.
It is believed that as long as one has the pin code, they do not have to wait for the 20th of every month to access their money because they can do so on the 10th, 15th, or 16th, or at any time.
This includes recipients who get paid using mobile paypoints, who can obtain a pin number and access their money on any day of the month through other access points.
Sassa has faced difficulties with its mobile sites, which are sometimes positioned between settlements. According to Sassa, they have encountered the difficulty of running out of money in these sites because there is a limited quantity of money available, however,
It has been discovered that individuals go to these sites in big numbers, causing Sassa to run out of money. Recipients are then turned away, some of whom have traveled.
According to Sethokga, older individuals and people with impairments would always be prioritized at mobile pay stations.
