Kenya School of Law (KSL) Advocates Training Programme (ATP) 2023/2024
It is notified to the general public that the 2023/2024 Academic Year for the Advocates Training Programme (ATP) at the Kenya School of Law (KSL) shall commence on 6TH FEBRUARY 2023.
A) ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
The following categories of persons will be admissible to the programme:
1. Applicants admitted into the LL.B AFTER 8TH DECEMBER, 2014 must satisfy the following requirements:-
Graduates of Kenyan Universities:
i) Attained a minimum of grade B (plain) in English Language or Kiswahili and a mean grade of C (plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination KCSE) or its equivalent; or
ii) Attained a minimum of two (2) principals and one (1) subsidiary totaling to an aggregate of ten (10) points in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) or its equivalent; and
iii) Have passed in the mandatory 16 core subjects as stipulated in the Second Schedule of the Legal Education Act, 2012; and
iv) Hold or are eligible for conferment of an LL.B degree from a university recognized in Kenya.
NB: Applicants holding secondary school qualifications other than those offered by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) must seek equation from the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA).
Graduates of Foreign Universities
i) Attained a minimum of grade B (plain) in English Language or Kiswahili and a mean grade of C (plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination KCSE) or its equivalent; or
ii) Attained a minimum of two (2) principals and one (1) subsidiary totaling to an aggregate of ten (10) points in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) or its equivalent; and
iii) Have passed in the mandatory 16 core subjects as stipulated in the Second Schedule to the Legal Education Act, 2012; and
iv) Hold or are eligible for conferment of a recognized LL.B degree from a foreign university; and
v) Obtain clearance from the Council of Legal Education (CLE)
vi) Must sit and pass the Pre-Bar Examination as provided under the Second Schedule to the Kenya School of Law Act, part 1 (b) (iii).
NB: Applicants holding secondary school qualifications other than those offered by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) must seek equation from the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA).
2. Applicants admitted into the LL.B BEFORE 8TH DECEMBER, 2014 must satisfy the following requirements:-
a) having passed the relevant examination of any recognized university in Kenya, he holds or has become eligible for the conferment of the Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B) of that university;
b) having passed the relevant examinations of a university, university college or other institutions prescribed by the Council of Legal Education, he holds or has become eligible for the conferment of the Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B) in the grant of that university, university college or other institution, and prior to enrolling at that university, university college or other institution –
(i) attained a minimum entry requirements for admission to a university in Kenya; and
ii) obtained minimum grade B (plain) in English Language and a mean grade of C (plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination or its equivalent;
c) Holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B) from a recognized university and attained a minimum grade of C (plus) in English and a minimum aggregate grade of C (plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination, holds a higher qualification e.g. “A” levels, “IB”, relevant “Diploma”, other “undergraduate degree” or has attained a higher degree in Law after the undergraduate studies in the Bachelor of Laws programme; or
d) a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B) from recognized university and attained a minimum grade of C (minus) in English and a minimum of an aggregate grade of C (minus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination sits and passes the Pre-Bar Examination set by the Kenya School of Law as a pre-condition for admission.

B) MODE OF APPLICATION
Applicants seeking admission to the programme must submit their applications through the online application portal available on the School website www.ksl.ac.ke
The following documents should be uploaded on the portal:
a) Copy of the applicant’s LL.B. degree certificate or proof of eligibility for conferment;
b) Copies of academic transcripts for the four (4) academic years; NB. (Provisional transcripts shall only be accepted if they show proof of completion of the LL.B programme.)
c) Copy of secondary school certificate(s);
d) Copy of national identity card or valid passport;
e) Two passport size colour photographs;
f) Copy of payment of application fee receipt issued by Kenya School of Law;
g) Copy of CLE clearance letter for persons with LL.B Degrees from foreign universities;
h) Letter of equation from KNQA for secondary school qualifications not offered by KNEC;
i) Copy of admission letter to the LL.B;
Applicants must deposit a non-refundable application processing fee of Kshs. 2000/- as indicated below:

Only applications submitted in the prescribed format and meet all the stipulated requirements and received on or before the closing date shall be considered.
C) FINANCIAL SUPPORT
The School has partnered with the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) to provide minimal funding to bona fide needy students towards payment of tuition fees. The application form for financial support will be available on the School website www.ksl.ac.ke and that of HELB www.helb.co.ke during the month of January 2023,
NOTE:
The eligibility requirements may be varied in light of a pending Court of Appeal judgement.
