Generation Africa GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize Competition 2023
Youth-led African agrifood businesses are back in the spotlight as Generation Africa rolls out the 2023 edition of the Gogettaz Agripreneur Prize Competition. Applications are open from 8 May to 19 June 2023. The competition will culminate in an exciting final pitch contest live on stage at the AGRF Summit to be held this year in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in September. Two young African entrepreneurs, one man and one woman, will be awarded a game changing US$50,000 each to accelerate their journey to scale.
In its fifth year, Generation Africa has successfully established the GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize Competition as the most significant annual agripreneurship competition in Africa. The initiative aims to inspire millions of young people to venture into the fast-evolving agrifood sector. Generation Africa’s support extends beyond the competition, offering a bespoke Generation Africa Fellowship Programme (GAFP), special scholarship opportunities, advocacy platforms, and more.
Prizes
The competition rewards innovation and scalability in business ventures. Two entrepreneurs, one woman and one man, will each win $50,000 USD to accelerate the growth and scaling of their business ventures.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the competition, entrepreneurs should meet the following criteria:
- Age 35 or below on the date of submission to the competition
- Legally recognized as an adult in their country of nationality
- National of an African Union member country
- Founder or co-founder of the venture they represent
- No criminal record related to corruption, tax evasion, financial impropriety, felony or other offenses
The venture should meet the following requirements:
- Legally registered in an African Union member country or in the process of registration prior to June 1, 2023
- Headquartered in an African Union member country
- Designed to be financially sustainable
- Engaged in the agri-food sector or supports its development through innovation or process improvement
Selection Criteria
Businesses demonstrating innovation, market potential, social and environmental impact, a viable business model, and a competent team are encouraged to apply.
How to Apply
The application includes questions about your entrepreneurial mindset, revenue model, customer and competitor understanding, and business challenges. After the initial screening, shortlisted applicants will be asked to submit a two-minute pitch video.
