The FAO Liaison Office for North America, located in Washington, DC, plays a key role in advancing FAO’s mandate to end hunger, malnutrition and poverty worldwide, while contributing to the SDGs. Toward this end, the Liaison Office engages in partnership-building, policy dialogue and information dissemination, and raising the visibility of the Organization in the region.

FAO North America is currently hiring for the following Internships positions. The duration is 3-6 months, and the remuneration is up to 700 USD per month. Please carefully follow the instructions on how to apply at the bottom of the page.

Partnerships Intern

Division/Department: FAO Liaison Office for North America (LOW)

Location: Washington, DC, USA

Type of Position: Internship (3-6 months)

Key Functions:

 

  • Support efforts related to raising awareness of FAO’s Strategic Framework (2022-2031) focused on the Four Betters through the guiding lens of SDG 1 (No poverty), SDG 2 (Zero hunger), and SDG 10 (Reduced inequalities)
  • Develop outreach content for @FAOnorthAmerica Twitter account and analyze social media performance on a monthly and quarterly basis, proposing improvements;
  • Assist in executing global campaigns by carrying out a variety of outreach activities to targeted stakeholders;
  • Prepare articles on activities the office organizes;
  • Raise awareness about FAO’s mission in North America by attending and reporting on events, conducting research on timely topics and sharing findings through briefings and presentations;
  • Support outreach to journalists, media outlets, influencers, and other key stakeholders; •
  • Maintain the office’s contact database for external communications; and
  • Perform other related duties as required.

 

Indigenous People’s Liaison Intern

Division/Department: FAO Liaison Office for North America (LOW)

Location: Washington, DC, USA

Type of Position: Internship (3-6 months)

Key Functions:

·       Support efforts related to raising awareness on the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG2 to achieve Zero Hunger through wide dissemination of FAO’s work in this area;

·       Support the development of a work plan for indigenous peoples’ priorities in North America;

·       Support the implementation of activities within the pillar of work related to Indigenous Food Systems with specific emphasis in North America;

·       Support FAOLOW in preparatory activities of the UN Food Systems Summit 2021 with a particular focus on indigenous peoples’ issues in North America;

·       Support LOW with the organization of expert seminars, meetings, events and discussions with indigenous peoples;

·       Provide support in the advocacy actions to promote the inclusion of indigenous women in universities and research centers in North America within the pillar of work related to Indigenous Women;

·       Raise awareness about FAO’s mission and collaborations with indigenous peoples in North America by attending and reporting on events, conducting research on timely topics and sharing findings through briefings and presentations;

·       In close collaboration with OCC, promote FAO’s work and ongoing campaigns to targeted audiences by creating engaging content for social media, web-stories, newsletter and email blasts;

·       Assist in the timely delivery of references and documents

·       In close collaboration with OCC and PSUI, develop outreach content for social media platforms;

·       Maintain the contact database for North American indigenous peoples and related contacts; and

·       Perform other related duties as required.

 

Legislative Intern

Division/Department: FAO Liaison Office for North America (LOW)

Location: Washington, DC, USA

Duration: Internship  (3-6 months)

Key Functions:

  • Support FAO North America’s outreach activities on Capitol Hill and Parliament Hill, including:
    • Compiling and updating official FAO briefing documents for distribution to staff and Members
    • Assisting with preparatory and follow-up materials in advance of and following high-level meetings with Congressional and Parliamentary Members and staff
    • Researching and analyzing legislation relevant to FAO’s mandate
  • Monitor key legislative events and communications to raise office-wide awareness of Capitol Hill and Parliament Hill matters
  • Provide project-based support for official FAO North America events and initiatives
  • Perform other duties as required

FAO pays a monthly stipend (up to $700 per month) to interns if they are not sponsored by sending universities or other entities.
