The FAO Liaison Office for North America, located in Washington, DC, plays a key role in advancing FAO’s mandate to end hunger, malnutrition and poverty worldwide, while contributing to the SDGs. Toward this end, the Liaison Office engages in partnership-building, policy dialogue and information dissemination, and raising the visibility of the Organization in the region.

Indigenous People’s Liaison Intern |

Key Functions: · Support efforts related to raising awareness on the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG2 to achieve Zero Hunger through wide dissemination of FAO’s work in this area; · Support the development of a work plan for indigenous peoples’ priorities in North America; · Support the implementation of activities within the pillar of work related to Indigenous Food Systems with specific emphasis in North America; · Support FAOLOW in preparatory activities of the UN Food Systems Summit 2021 with a particular focus on indigenous peoples’ issues in North America; · Support LOW with the organization of expert seminars, meetings, events and discussions with indigenous peoples; · Provide support in the advocacy actions to promote the inclusion of indigenous women in universities and research centers in North America within the pillar of work related to Indigenous Women; · Raise awareness about FAO’s mission and collaborations with indigenous peoples in North America by attending and reporting on events, conducting research on timely topics and sharing findings through briefings and presentations; · In close collaboration with OCC, promote FAO’s work and ongoing campaigns to targeted audiences by creating engaging content for social media, web-stories, newsletter and email blasts; · Assist in the timely delivery of references and documents · In close collaboration with OCC and PSUI, develop outreach content for social media platforms; · Maintain the contact database for North American indigenous peoples and related contacts; and · Perform other related duties as required. |

Information to Applicants
Qualified female applicants and qualified nationals of non- and under-represented member nations as well as candidates from the global south and Indigenous Peoples are encouraged to apply.
Candidates are requested to attach to their application a letter of motivation, the evidence of attendance in a recognized university or copy of their academic qualifications and copies of their language proficiency certificates.

FAO pays a monthly stipend (up to $700 per month) to interns if they are not sponsored by sending universities or other entities.
Candidates should have appropriate residence or immigration status in the proposed duty station prior to the start of the internship assignment
Preference will be given to applicants who self-identify as Indigenous from Canada or the USA.
