Call for proposals for French Archaeological Missions in the Indo-Pacific Region to be established in 2023
The Call for proposals for French Archaeological Missions in the Indo-Pacific Region to be established in 2023, within the Asia-Oceania sub-commission, the goal is to improve archaeological cooperation (one of the five sub-commissions making up the Advisory Commission on Archaeological Research Abroad).
Specifications for the application:
One of the project leaders must be of French nationality, have a doctorate in archaeology, prior experience as a fieldwork manager, and be fluent in the host country’s language. A French research organization or laboratory must support the project: the project leader must be attached to or associated with a French institution, university, or research laboratory and must have a letter of recommendation from the entity’s director. This is also true for non-tenured higher education employees. If the project is chosen, the institution or laboratory must agree to supervise the researcher and complete the four-year program if the researcher does not have permanent status.
The project must be designed over a four-year period (four-year program) and must begin in 2023.
Partnerships
To be able to count on the collaboration of local institutions, the archaeological mission should be led by a French project leader and a local project leader (ministries of culture of both countries, institutions in charge of heritage or archaeology, etc.).
The file’s structure
Because this is a new mission, the following information will be required:
- a motivational letter
- The mission leader’s curriculum vitae.
- The proposed four-year plan, which includes a timetable of planned operations and a map of the site at the national or regional level.
- a copy of the local authorities’ excavation permit (or procedures in progress).
How to Apply
A maximum of three projects will be chosen by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. The overall budget for the three missions every year is 30,000 euros (i.e. 10,000 euros each per year over four years).
