AMwA seeks the creativity of African feminists in disseminating key issues from the Oral Herstories. We encourage creativity in their diversity from audio, visual, painting, and other artistry displays that can portray the lived experiences of the 16 women interviewed in the Oral Herstories.

Akina Mama wa Afrika (AMwA) is a feminist-Pan-African leadership development organization that was founded in 1985 by a group of visionary African women in the United Kingdom but later relocated to Africa with headquarters in Kampala, Uganda.
Their work is rooted in feminist principles and beliefs guided by the Charter of Feminist Principles for African Feminists which defines their leadership development programme and movement-building activities.

AMwA provides strategic direction in key Pan-African networks including NGO CSW Africa, Solidarity for African Women’s Rights and the Gender Is My Agenda Campaign. AMwA also has consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council. AMwA envisions a world in which African women are politically, economically, and socially autonomous and are champions of change in their lives and society. AMwA’s mission is to strengthen the individual and collective leadership of African women, forming strategic partnerships, to tackle patriarchy and attain gender equality and women’s empowerment for a just and secure Africa.

It is for these reasons that AMwA is looking for African creative artists to;-

● Extract and portrays information from the Oral Herstories: Women Political Leaders in Uganda, The Personal is Political’ in a creative and simple form from a feminist perspective that can encourage fresh debates, protests, and artistic manifestations regarding the societal injustices brought to light by the derogatory portrayals of women in and by the media.

● Creatively demonstrate how negatively women are portrayed in the media, the level of violence that women are shown by the media, and transform the narrative by drawing from the positive, progressive and impactful leadership trajectories shared in the Oral Herstories by the 16 women in political leadership.

Required Qualification, Skills, and Competencies

AMwA extend an invitation to creative content creators with an existing brand/portfolio on discussing feminist issues in creative ways and a growing online audience.

Duration

  • The assignment will last 2 months

Deadline is on or before 20th August 2022.

Young feminist women, nonbinary and transgender persons, as well as people with disabilities, are encouraged to apply.
